September 21, 2024 ~ Welcome back
The board members provided delicious refreshments for our first meeting of the year. And to top everything else off, we revealed our annual rug challenge for those that choose to participate. This year will be a little different, but we hope it will appeal to many people as it offers more flexibility than some of our past challenges.
October 19, 2024 ~ Ornament workshop
Ildi Tary led us in an excellent mini workshop to make the Christmas tree ornaments shown last year by Ildi. We were able to leave with a design planned out, and well on its way to completion!
November 16: Member Journey with Tina Carrick
Tina Carrick presented a journey of her work including painting, felting and, of course, rug hooking. Tina is known for her original and creative designs, often celebrating her love of nature.
December 14: Holiday Party
Thanks to everyone that joined our holiday party. As usual, it was an extravaganza of food and wonderful hand-crafted gifts.
We also showed many tree ornaments made from October’s program. These photos and the gift exchange items are in the newsletter.
January 18 : Deanna David of Ribbon Candy Hooking
Deana focused on a small group of well-known artists and how their work can inspire rug hooking designs and colorways.designs. The artists featured in the talk included Maud Lewis, Hilma af Klint, Magdalena Briner Eby, Marc Chagall, Friedensreich Hunterwasser, and Gustav Klimt.
Deana is the founder and owner of Ribbon Candy Hooking. She runs a biweekly live rug hooking show on the Ribbon Candy Hooking YouTube channel and has published three books on rug hooking recently including The Haunted Rug, which came out this past autumn. She also publishes with her partner Judy Tayor, Magpie Times Magazine, a quarterly rug hooking magazine that is now in its second year. Deana is the new President of TIGHR, The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers, and will be hosting the next TIGHR event in Newport, RI in the Autumn of 2027.

February 15: Flea Market
As always the flea market was a lot of fun. Many people found valuable treasures! support our programs. On top of that, we raised $745 to help
There were pillow forms, batting, silk ties, and lots of other fibers–wool, of course, yarn and books of all kinds! There were lots and lots of patterns, some that even had a good head start!
March 15: Sue Barry ~ Torn strips heart workshop
Susan Barry shared some of her own torn-strip work and led a workshop using torn strips to create a double-sided heart pillow.
Sue’s love of rug hooking began when she happened upon a rug pattern and made a visit to a rug hooking shop. All other crafts were packed up and put away and Sue followed her bliss to become a Certified McGown Teacher and Oxford Punch Needle Instructor.
Sue is President of the Charles River Rug Guild, a Boston area ATHA chapter, Vice President of Norther McGown Teachers Workshop and current Treasurer of Oxford Punch Needle Instructors Guild (OPNIG ). She teaches classes and provides individual instruction in both traditional and punch needle hooking at her home and enjoys combining both techniques in the same piece.
