Guest Speaker: Susan Clarke
Topic: Influences on my work

This meeting was on Zoom and well attended. Susan Clarke was the guest speaker and gave a great presentation on her rug hooking journey and work.

She is passionate about color and fibre arts. Susan is an Ontario Hooking Craft Guild Certified Teacher, and has been a member of the OHCG since 2006. Her work is regularly shown at the OHCG Annuals, where she has won awards in the following categories: Original (2014), Theme Award (2016 and 2020), Wide Cut (2018), and Fine Cut (2019). She has published articles in the OHCG Newsletter and contributed a chapter in Rug Hooking Magazine’s, “Hooked Carpetbags” publication (2017).

Susan has also been a member of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (ATHA) since 2018, and a member of the National Guild of Pearl K. McGowan Hookrafters, since 2020. She is currently working towards her McGown teacher’s certification. Susan’s website is here.

Guest speaker: John Sullivan
Topic: Hooking with yarn

John Sullivan was the guest speaker at the October Mayflower meeting via Zoom He did a presentation on hooking with yarn. Everyone that joined was thrilled to see his presentation.

This meeting was held via Zoom. 

Ania Knap was our guest speaker, and gave an outstanding presentation on the history of stained glass windows and demonstrated techniques for creating stained-glass hooked rugs.

Lisanne Miller of W. Cushing & Co. conducted a (virtual) wreath kit class. She also showed slides of her wool and other items in her shop.

This meeting was held via Zoom with a hook-In and show and tell (on the gallery page). We also held our election of officers (listed here).

May 15, 2021

At our May meeting, Donna Allen held a virtual Waldoboro workshop. She provided a history of Waldoboro rugs with an emphasis on the sculpting technique that they have become synonymous with. Donna also demonstrate the sculpting technique that she uses and guided participants in completing the rabbit and flower featured in the patterns sent to all members.

June 19, 2021

We owe a huge thank you to Ildi Tary for hosting this year’s Strawberry Festival. In addition to providing us with a beautiful location, Ildi baked lots of delicious breads, scones and muffins and made salad with grilled chicken. We all enjoyed the sandwiches and strawberries with angel food cake!
