Here are summaries of our meetings from September 2017 to June 2018.

This gallery page has slideshows with rugs and other hooked art displayed at these meetings.

Welcome Back, September 16, 2017

Our meeting was a meet and greet and a mini-auction. Ann and Lin picked up a huge amount of wool from Lynn Iberg, who is downsizing her stash. Eileen Malay was there to sell some of her rug hooking items.

Guest Speaker and Display Your Challenge Rugs, October 21, 2017

We had a nice gathering at the October meeting. Kathy Spellacy from Wool’n Goods was the guest speaker, and she helped finish off the “Chicken Cacciatore” project that some of us were doing.

It was great to see the Project Challenge pieces that people did over the past year and other projects that folks brought in. There are a lot of seriously talented hookers in our group!

Gail Majauckas, November 18, 2017

Gail Majauckas was the guest speaker and vendor, and she spoke about the Christmas tree and elf patterns she brought with her. They’re fun to do and work up fast!

Holiday Party, December 30, 2017

It was a very cold wintery day, but our Holiday Party was a success! There was a lot of delicious food, wonderful gifts were exchanged, and door prizes were drawn. Great food, great gifts and great friends!

Ania Knap, January 20, 2018

Our guest speaker was Ania Knap who offered a Tartan Workshop and brought her wool to vend.

Bring Your Own Work, February 17, 2018

It was a winter Hook-In. The wool sale was very successful. If you missed it, the remaining wool will be available at the March meeting. After that meeting, whatever isn’t sold will be donated to various charities/non-profit groups.

Guest speaker, Donna Hezlep, March 24, 2018

Our guest speaker was Donna Hezlep, who presented “The Gift in Our Hands,” a quilt maker’s journey through rug hooking. What a fun time we had! Donna talked about her journey from being a quilt maker to becoming a rug hooker. She brought a few of her beautiful quilts and rugs. Impressive work!

Mayflower Auction, April 21, 2018

We had a nice turnout for the April meeting. There was no guest speaker, but it was nice to just sit, talk and hook! The annual auction was held, and while it wasn’t as big as last year’s, a little money was raised for next year’s activities.

Jeanne Fallier went through her huge collection of patterns and brought some of them in for sale. If you missed this opportunity to purchase a pattern or two, you may have a chance to do so at the June meeting.

Bring Your Own Work, May 19, 2018

We didn’t have a guest speaker at the May meeting, but it was nice to sit, hook and talk.

Strawberry Festival, June 16, 2018

The June Strawberry Festival was held at Ildi Tary’s home in Topsfield. It was a “made to order day” for Mayflower’s Strawberry Festival, the last meeting of the 2017/2018 year. Many hands helped to make it a memorable day for all participants. Thanks and kudos to all who attended, helped with strawberries and other food items and those who helped in the kitchen.

A special thanks to Ildi for graciously opening her home, providing many breakfast items, salad, grilled chicken and all of the fresh baked items she prepared. On top of all this, Ildi also created the beautiful flier to honor our special guest, Jeanne Fallier.

Jeanne was honored and recognized for her many contributions to Mayflower, rug hooking, and the artistry of her many patterns. Her work is prolific and incredible, and we thank her for her dedication in promoting the craft of rug hooking. To help commemorate her achievements, Jeanne was given the flier of her time line history, including pictures of some of her rugs and an introductory comment by one of her contemporaries.

Pat Iverson and Cynthia Dabroski brought their completed rugs utilizing Jeanne’s patterns. Jeanne is planning to meet with a potential buyer of her portfolio, and hopefully her many patterns will be preserved and become a part of her legacy.

A cake was presented to her and of course lots of good food and strawberries!

Special thanks to Dot Woodle in assisting Jeanne with sorting and organizing her many paper patterns, always providing a ride to Jeanne, and just generally being an exceptional friend. It was a great day, with an abundance of wonderful food, a beautiful home reflecting Ildi’s multiple talents, as well as the chance to honor our first Mayflower President. And, of course, sharing the day with exceptional, talented “hookers”!
